So many details are so right in this book, from the texture of the outer cover (and the map on the inside flaps) to the multiple ways of organizing the "adventures"... and it's well balanced take on getting kids outside while also encouraging them put their phones to meaningful use on the hike. The graphic design and photography add a lot to the text, which has a uniquely fun tone itself... appropriate for parents and teachers, and their younger "adventurers."

LOVE THIS BOOK, but if I did not know better, I would get lost looking for some of these sites. We live in Salem and the hikes that are listed for the Salem, Oregon area are over an hour away. I would have listed the actual towns instead. We have not looked into the other listings and locations yet. Is this consistent? I wish there were more Western Oregon hikes, I guess it just feels like the majority of the good hikes are in Washington which is a bit of a drive for our family.

This is such an amazing book! It's beautiful, practical and encourages families to get outside and spend time together. The tips are really easy to follow and the images really get you excited to go outside and start exploring. I can't wait to go through all 50 hikes!! I recommend this to all - whether you're an avid hiker -- or not (it will inspire you to become one)!

My 7 year old grands love a scavenger hunt, and where better than hunting the Pacific NW, where we live? Teacher inspired, well done. Thank you.

My kids love looking through this book as much as I do. It's very well organized! We have been to 2 of the places the author suggested and I feel her descriptions have been accurate so far.

This book is perfect for families hiking in OR or WA. There are excellent trail descriptions, scavenger hunt finds, colorful photos. Overall, a perfect little book to bring along on the trail, or discover a new trail to explore.

This book it great! It was a gift for someone but I flipped through it and it has fun facts and very detailed.

I enjoyed the previous books in this series, but this book ended it for me. The heavy handed and none-too-subtle insertion of right wing Republican "down with government" and "the New Deal safety net as Satanic" messages were just disgusting. Brian Godawa equates our current safety net, which provides social security and Medicare to the elderly, and our food stamp program for disabled, vets and the poor, with a Satanic plan to poison humanity and turn everyone into lazy mindless dependents of the government. If something isn't broke , don't fix it! Since the Great Depression, the safety net has given the elderly, the disabled and the poor a life of dignity. But this right wing buffoon known as the author, has decided to insert right wing Republican views on all this as God's Will. We are told that ancient decadent Sodom and other cities of "evil" supported the poor and provided for them, as if this is some great evil. I find right wing Christians to illogical. They are always ranting and raving about how Christian values should influence government. Yet they loath any sort of government aid for the poor, the elderly, the sick and the disabled, calling it all a satanic conspiracy to make people "dependent" on government. As an elderly person in poor health, I literally THANK GOD our government still has social security regardless of the attempts of the GOP to destroy it. I am glad I can see a doctor even though the GOP wants to destroy Medicare. Jesus on Judgment Day asks sinners if they fed and clothed the poor and the elderly, but somehow right wing Christians have collective amnesia about this. They think that Jesus is a predatory capitalist who believes that share holder value is what counts most in a society. But not to stop on this note, Brian then declares that same sex marriage is a horrible plot of Satan on the same level as beastiality, pedophilia, and every other form of sexual depravity conceivable to Brian Godawa. I do actually wonder if he was drunk when he wrote this book. It is filled with so much smut and graphic sexual violence. Perhaps the man needs to see a good psychiatrist. To equate helping people with satan and to equate 2 adults of the same sex having a civil marriage with rape, incest, beastiality and every other sin under the sun is just pathetic. I am through with this series. Can I assume that in the next book, God will call for a massive tax cut for billionaires? Will children be separated from their parents by the thousands as they try to enter Canaan with God's blessing? I am out of this cesspool where God is a right wing Republican.

This was well written. I have been racing through these books, and the first thing I read is the back of the book! There, Brian explains how the story fits into the Bible as we know it, but never thought about it. We tend to see Abraham as an old man, offering his son up to God, who spares him at the last minute. We tend not to think about his life before that moment, and how that life must have shaped him and his relationship with God. I have read these stories in the Bible and I often wondered at the radical changes in God and His behavior from one verse to the next. Some stories have Him showing great mercy and kindness, others displaying a fierceness that is a little frightening. And I would wonder, why? I've enjoyed these stories especially because, if nothing else, they have given me a new perspective on what life could have been like then and why these stories are not seemingly random and, how in the light of that era, God's behavior and words are appropriate and actually loving.I am a Bible-reading Catholic and I have yet to find anything in his books that would make me question my faith. In fact, I find myself frequently sympathizing with the characters and their struggle to remain faithful to a God they know is there but can't fathom, a God who provides miracles and demands obedience.I just love how the story is set within the historical frame as we know it (from archaeological evidence). I have been recommending this book to many of my friends. Thoroughly enjoyable read!

Like the other books in the Chronicles of the Nephilim, this one is well researched and very well written. I am grateful for Godawa's work on this series. However, I have two gripes that keep me from giving it a top rating. Unlike the previous books which came to a natural ending, this one ended so abruptly that it seemed it was time to send it to the publisher before he finished writing it. The story is well crafted leading up to the birth of Isaac. The writing drove the reader to the conclusion. But when we got there, it seemed like it was tacked on with literally a paragraph at the end. No explanation. Little rejoicing. Just "and the baby was born. The end."Since neither the life of Isaac or Jacob have their own books, I expected the book on Abraham to at least cover up to the sacrifice of his son. Alas, it was not meant to be.The second grievance is similar to those I have had with the first books but this one has strayed to a much greater degree. Godawa tries to make the marriage bed spiritual but largely fails. It is a shame too because this is something that needs to be done well. However, worse was the graphic portrayal of the sinful sex. Surely, this level of perversion must have happened leading up to the tower of Babel incident and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah as paganism ran free. But I think the story would have been better served if it had been handled with a little more discretion and a little less overt descriptive language.These two issues mar what otherwise would have been a five-star rating.

If I could give it a zero, I would. I was extremely disgusted & disturbed by the content, could not finish it, I've sent it back for a refund. I really enjoyed the first two books in this series (having read the book of Enoch) I could see how the events in books one & two could be realistic.Not so in Abraham Allegiant, the very name of the book breeds deception for it makes you believe you will be reading about the biblical Abraham in a good setting but the book concentrates more on violence and sexual perversion by Nimrod and the fallen angels called the sons of God.It is very disturbing, the content puts a slur on the Bible and takes away any innocence of humankind. It should "Not be" labeled under Christian fiction and definitely should not be read by impressionable young people.
