Good info on the phenols and other health benefits of coffee, good coffee names to look for, and a few good coffee preparation tips. However, this is really more of a book on coffee than a "diet" book per se. Most of the dietary info is old-school "American Heart Association (AHA)" type of stuff: "fat is bad for your heart, watch your cholesterol, and eat plenty of whole grains because our body needs them." There is also not even so much as a mention of Bullet-Proof type coffee with grass fed butter/ghee and MCT oil added (as above, this goes against standard AHA party line so he leaves it out). The coffee piece of the book is great, but the dietary piece is pretty weak. Take a look around you next time you are in a gathering of people (mall, airport, etc): does it look like the "stanard advice" of avoiding fats, watching your cholesterol, and eating whole grains is working? Virtually every person you see today is on the spectrum of being simply out of shape to extreme obesity. A better book to read on the dietary part is Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson. Coffee + good fat + MCT = good but breads/grains/sugary carbs = bad. We as a society will continue to get fatter and fatter until we realize it is largely breads, processed stuff, so-called low fat stuff, etc that is the problem.

Love this book! As a coffee lover, I read all I can on this subject. This book did not disappoint! A treasure trove of important information and so much more. A fun, interesting, definitely non-boring read. Highly recommended, if like me, you're cuckoo for coffee.

Excellent book, lots of great & useful info, pretty much everything you wanted to know about coffee. But some advice...avoid his line of coffee, Dr. Danger...way overpriced & the quality does not live up to what you'd expect from the writings in his book.

Great book learned a ton about coffee and quality products, have ordered and tried Ethiopian and Tanzanian coffees, also got a great bean grinder.Also got an Arzum Mirra Greek/Turkish teapot - can't wait to try it this weekend.BTW - I also have tried some of the recipe's and smothies - down 10 lbs in 3 weeks. This book is an important read for those concerned with the struggles of free speech, academic freedom, diversity of thought, and banning unpopular ideas on campus. Also addresses issues like safe zones, micro-aggressions, controversial labels like “snowflakes”, and highly publicized liberal versus conservative speakers on campus. As the book progresses, it carefully deals with many of the biggest issues facing the future of higher education. A good read for anyone interested in campus life in the years just ahead.A few specifics: The author notes that free speech and academic freedom aren’t the same thing, and that while free speech is a right held by citizens in a free society, academic freedom is usually considered a meritocratic benefit that must be earned by those who qualify to become faculty. The book also addresses the roles played by outside donors, politicians, and corporations that influence academia, some for good and others for ill. The author makes the case that liberals, not just conservatives, are too often denied real academic freedom in the current campus environment.On the downside, this book seldom rises above partisanship. The language and tone are mostly respectful and measured when describing the Left, but in places come across dismissive or even smug when addressing the Right. The Left is largely portrayed positively and the Right negatively. As a result, I think most Left-leaning readers will enjoy this book, while many from the Right will consider it frustrating and one-sided.A final thought: the book frequently describes the modern campus in ways that may reveal “the elephant in the room”, major administrative sprawl and a constantly increasing bureaucracy, and the trend of these non-learner roles supplanting faculty and students as the center of, and potentially majority on, campus. This may, sooner or later, become a bigger problem than any of the other issues addressed in the book.

Henry Reichman is a noted academic (professor emeritus), leads the American Association of University Professors’ Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure, and is the author of several other books about academic freedom and censorship.His latest book, THE FUTURE OF ACADEMIC FREEDOM, discusses his stand on academic freedom of postsecondary instructors, their First Amendment rights, how corporations can silence sound research, the First Amendment rights of visiting lecturers and students, and what unions can and cannot do. He ends with his forecast about what the Trump administration is doing along these lines.This book contains nearly seventy pages of notes in the back matter, so Reichman does show extensive research, and he does strive to make his arguments sound.But do I agree with his arguments? Some I do; some I don’t. My reactions would go far beyond the scope of a brief review and become an extensive academic response paper in its own right. Because I earned one of my two advanced degrees through online studies and have taught online, I will say that Chapter 6, “Will Online Education Cure the ‘Cost Disease’? concerns me the most. Online education has its place for many people who might not otherwise be able to continue their studies, but it isn’t for everyone; it requires very self-disciplined instructors and students who will log in daily and stay with their work. Indeed, the drop rate for online courses is higher than face-to-face courses, usually because either the instructor or the student didn’t have adequate self-discipline; some instructors will open a course and then leave students to their own devices, even at the graduate level, and that simply does not work. Some students believe falsely that online study has no deadlines for work; this isn’t so. This is one case where a very self-disciplined adjunct instructor who, yes, will nudge students who are slipping behind may be better than a tenured professor who sometimes feels as if s/he has better things to do than keep check on online students.Though I don’t totally agree with all of Reichman’s arguments, I do agree with his right to opinions backed with good resources. Reichman does do that, and this book will give pause to those of us who are or have been in education.

For people who like the travel narrative genre, this book will be very appealing. While many such books rely on humor or absurdity in describing their travels, this author is much more sensitive to the people and sites he encounters. He comes as a tourist without a political agenda but not adverse to talking to the people about the huge changes that occurred throughout the region. His visits to local historic sites are revealing since many are unknown to most of the world. The book is a good mixture of personal encounters and geographical/historical descriptions all of which are told in a very readable, captivating way. I found the author more interested conveying a feeling for the people and places he visited rather than how those things affected him, a common trap for travel writers. The author does a great job of getting beyond the headlines and giving us a glimpse of how life goes on AFTER a revolution.

It's interesting and alarming at times but I struggled with the way it was written.The sentence construction and flow of thoughts was not to my liking.

Another fast paced and hugely enjoyable narrative full of colourful and interesting people and places. It charts Tom's breakneck travels across North Africa's in the wake of the Arab Spring; where in the guise of a tourist he gets behind the seismic political changes that have occurred recently in the region. Tom asks the questions and reports the answers of those who have lived through oppression and are now experiencing the first promise of freedom. Littered with characters that have been gagged throughout their entire lives and are finally feeling able to speak out with some degree of comfort and safety. If contemporary history sometimes passes you by then here is a book that pieces together the key events and timeline that saw the demise of corrupt and often inhumane dictatorships. History will decide if the Arab Spring is in fact a False Dawn. A sequel that determines if the economic benefits, equality and personal liberties that are promised actually materialise is certainly one for Tom's future Title List!

About the Author

Rob Goss first came to Japan in 1999 to teach English for a year. Two years at the most was the plan. Like so many other former English teachers, however, Rob has ended up staying far longer in Tokyo without really knowing why. Cupid's arrow certainly played a part, as did the pitter-patter of part-Japanese, part-British baby feet that followed. Living in a metropolis that never ceases to amaze has helped too. During that time, she taught at several universities, and worked in a major Japanese company. Collins dislikes being called a hero, so I won't call him my hero. I will say that I have admired him since his Gemini X days for his astronaut adventures, excellent writing style, and humor. This is a wonderful book because it is so descriptive that you will feel as if you've journeyed to the moon and back with Collins. I would give the book 10 stars if that was possible. Fantastic. Wonderful. Educational. Humorous. Triumphant. How many of these adjectives will you use after reading this book? All these, and at least a hundred more, it's that good.

After reading Collins’ fantastic book “Carrying The Fire,” I wanted to learn more and read this. Beautiful writing, I’ve read over 30 books on the Apollo program and these two stand above the rest for me. Highly recommended

Not a very detailed account of his flight. Only a few nuggets that were interesting. I would have liked a little more detail on the trip and his personal interactions with his crew during the flight too and from the moon on this historical journey.

Astronaut Michael Collins' last flight was in 1969 and this remains a GREAT book for a youngster interested in space travel.

This is a good background on Mike Collins. It is not as detailed as”Carrying the Fire,” but is still a good read.

Great book worth the read!

Excellent read if you have any curiosity into the thoughts and adventures of being an astronaut.Upon reading the book and meeting Mr Collins, I am even more impressed and amazed at what our space program has done and continues to do with extraordinary people who are the Louis and Clark's of my lifetime.
