Adventures around Cincinnati is a terrific book for parents and grandparents who wish to explore the Cincinnati area with their children and grandchildren. There are no less than 87 attractions listed, which include addresses, phone numbers, websites, hours, costs, ages, stroller and wheel chair information, legnth of visits, and comments. The attractions are divided by region. One very nice feature is a small map with numbers of each attraction. This makes for easy planning and an easy way to have an "impromptu" trip to another attraction nearby.At the end of the book, there are a couple of sample itineraries for two years of summer adventures, and two years of year-round adventures. Also included at the back of the book is a chart listing the attractions in alphabetical order noting what kind of things are at the attractions so that the reader can plan adventures based on his or her interests.I live in the Cincinnati area, and I didn't even know about a lot of these little gems, many of which are free. I'm looking forward to planning my own adventures using this book.The film of childhood plays only once. It is so important to make memories for your children. Adventures Around Cincinnati is a great book to get you started.

This book is a wonderful resource for anyone living in or visiting Cincinnati. If you own the first edition, the second edition is worth the upgrade. I learned about more activities I had no idea existed, and I've lived in Cincinnati 32 years.

I have lived in Cincinnati for several years now, but as an expectant mother, I decided to purchase this book for some ideas for family outings. Although I had heard of a number of the places featured in the book, there were a great many that I had not heard of or considered. I am glad to have this resource and know we'll use it. It is written well and has details parents need to know.

I expected to get a few ideas for things to do with my kids from this book, but having lived in Cincinnati all my life, I wasn't sure just how useful it would be. However, as my 6 and 8 year old boys and I started to explore the book and our home town, I realized how much there is to do that I didn't already know about. This book is a great inspiration for going on adventures with my kids and gives really good information about each attraction. Written from the perspective of two moms who've "been there," all sorts of useful information and ideas are included. We used it to plan a fun hometown spring break and now have lots of nearby, low-cost plans for summer as well.

This guide is what I was hoping to find.The syntax examples are easy to understand and perfect for referencing in a pinch, and the exercises included in the text really drive home what you've learned.SQL can be difficult and frustrating to understand, but this guide really helps you feel like you're not alone and there actually is a solution to that problem you're convinced is impossible to solve. Honestly, this should be used in college courses, as it is easy to understand, and the author did a wonderful job writing it as if he were speaking to a person trying to learn SQL , instead of a computer program that knows how to do it for you. This is one resource that I will use in the future without hesitation, and I recommend it to all students trying to learn for themselves.

This book does a great job of introducing the reader to the basics of Microsoft SQL. Topics include installation, T-SQL, and database management. Recommended for readers with an interest in SQL, but little to no experience using it.

Actually, i think one of the books biggest strengths is its length. It explains new concepts in a clear and concise way, with no filler. It does not bombard you with information. It does not make promises we've so often seen like, "its ok if this doesn't make sense now, it will".This would be my 1st suggestion to anyone who has little to no experience with SQL. Intermediate SQL users can benefit from this book as a refresher. I would expect anyone with a level higher than intermediate would already know the concepts presented in this book pretty well.Overall, the length, brevity, and clear instructions in this book make it very friendly and approachable, especially to those who are new or need a refresher in SQL.

I now spend much of my day in SQL Server Management Studio, and this little book would have been great to have 2 years ago when I was just starting out. It's not as in-depth as other books (SQL Queries for Mere Mortals, for example), but it's very accessible and I would definitely recommend it for new users.

I would have loved to have known the author “back in the day” when I was running from club to club and very often letting the “voice” enter my head which reiterated all the reasons why I should quit, not get on stage or why I wasn’t as funny as the other stand ups. Rosenfield is the kind of teacher who can help anyone get beyond the self-doubt and severe stage fright and re-channel those emotions for much better use –great comedy! I walked away from this book realizing no comedian is “undeniably good” until the material is worked out over and over and over again. What separates great comedians from average comedians for the most part comes down to who can hang in there and do the extraordinary work required and who simply can’t. As I read Steve’s book, I would constantly go to YouTube to witness the great works of Jonathan Winters, Jackie “Mom’s” Mabley (Loretta Mary Aiken), Bob Newhart, Andy Kaufman, and many more rising stars I’ve never heard of but will certainly see in the future.Rosenfield is whip-smart and knows his stuff inside and out which makes this a thoroughly enjoyable read for this ex-comedian. But honestly for anyone interested in comedy or just wants to better understand how comedians do what they do, this is THE MOST compelling book on standup to read.

Although I've taken a couple of classes and have advanced to a few paid shows, I am hungry to improve my routines and performance. It's good to go over the basics again to remember what you may have forgotten and reinforce what's true and useful. To move up from there is critical when you're ready for it. Rosenfield helps by laying out stand-up craft in an organized, logical progression with examples and advice that's as tightly presented as a well honed routine. He points out what's important in the big picture and how details make a difference in your performance and connection with an audience. I will be re-reading this book for a long time. It's definitely bleak, but it's also so hauntingly beautiful as well.In addition to the environment art, there are also lots of character designs of the new assassins, supporting characters and the everyday men and women on the streets. It's pretty cool as usual to see the character and costume designs.Generally speaking, most of the illustrations are really detailed. The photo-bashing style is done extremely well. Photos are used for their textures to overlay onto the digitally drawn art and it works really well. At times I don't even get the feeling of the photo and digital art collage. I love the way they are painted in nitty-gritty style too.There are also commentary that talk about the design.It's a great artbook. Beautiful art book loaded with tons of stunning paintings. Two fold out panels and a smart jacket cover along with a very nice looking cover and back as well. This my favorite Assassin's Creed art book apart from AC IV: Black Flag. Highly recommended.

Excellent supplement when teaching forces and motion!

Great product, service and I would recommend it to friends.

I really like this book, but there are quite a few typos that render some of the mathematics incorrect. I've tried contacting the author and NSTA press to see if a second edition with corrections will be released, but have not received an answer. Please check over the book carefully before using with students. A couple of the mistakes show up as early as Chapter 1.

Some might blame these deaths on the Frozen Charlotte dolls (china dolls popular during the Victorian era) that litter the property, and Sophie learns that these dolls still seem to have a hold on those living in the old house. During Sophie's visit, Cameron's prized piano is smashed to bits and Piper's boyfriend's eyes are pierced with needles. Sophie must figure out which of her cousins she can trust and decide how to foil the plan to destroy her. Though all the adults in the story seem to be blind to the existence of the dolls and the havoc they wreak, Sophie tries to deal with the peculiar activities around her in a levelheaded way. Readers are brought along for the ride and soon discover with her who has a true heart and who has evil lurking within. Teens looking for a novel to keep them up at night will find it in this one. Frozen Charlotte is a great horror read that would be perfect for reading at any time of the year, and it is sure to send chills down your spine no matter when you pick this one up!Frozen Charlotte, to me, is The Shining meets Dolls. It's a story about creepy dolls, a secluded islan, and a bit of a psychological thriller that will keep you on edge (and probably have you keeping your lights on when you go to bed)."'What are you doing?' the schoolmistress said.The girls looked up at her. 'We're holding a funeral for the Frozen Charlottes, Miss Grayson.''Well, stop it at once,' the teacher replied. 'I never heard of anything so ghoulish.''But, miss,' one of the girls said, 'they like being dead. They told us.'"The beginning (I'm talking like the first two pages) of this book did a lot to set the creepy tone for this book, and it only gets better from there. The beginning of the book, which is set in the early 1900's, has a bunch of small girls playing with Frozen Charlotte dolls at their school - small dolls that were popular during the Victorian era. The girls are holding a funeral for the dolls, who have informed them that they enjoy being dead.Fast forward to present day, where Sophie and her best friend Jay are sitting in a diner playing with a Ouija board app on his phone. While Sophie isn't too keen on the idea, she goes along with it to satisfy Jay's curiosity, and while doing so, something creepy happens - the lights in the diner go off, Sophie swears she can see a girl standing on a table, and creepy music starts to play. The next morning, Sophie is informed that Jay died in an accident while riding his bike home. Crushed with grief and not understanding how this happened, Sophie decides to go on a trip to see her cousins and her uncle on the Isle of Skye. Thinking that this will help her process her grief and spend time with family she hasn't seen in years, it's something that she starts looking forward to.However, when she gets there, that all changes. Sophie meets her cousins - Piper, who is upbeat, happy, and seemingly perfect, Cameron, who is a reclusive musician and who has a horribly scarred hand from a fire, and Lilias, who is afraid of everything - especially her sister's Rebecca's room. Rebecca died in an accident years ago, and now Lilias swears she can hear her dolls talking in the middle of the night - making her stay far away from that room.The house where Sophia's uncle and cousins live is the old school that we read about in the beginning of the book. The school with the Frozen Charlotte dolls, which are still there. In fact, Rebecca used to love to play with them before she died, and now they are all locked up in a cabinet in her room. While Lilias swears that they are alive and she can hear them in the night, everyone else says that they are just dolls. But the mysterious events that occurred around the dolls over the years are way too much for it to be a coincidence, right? And when Sophie begins hearing and seeing strange things in her uncle's house, there has to be a logical explanation to them...or are the dolls really alive, and is Rebecca's ghost really haunting them?Dolls scare the absolute daylights out of me at the best of times...so much so that I can't even have any of my daughters' dolls even looking at me without freaking out. I never liked dolls (probably because of my love for the movie Dolls, which is where I'm pretty sure this aversion came from), and that hasn't changed since I got older, either. They just always creeped me out...the way they stare at you...nope, not my thing. At all. Which is probably why this book scared me so much.This book is absolutely fantastic as far as horror novels go, and I'll be the first to admit that I had to put it down multiple times because I was too spooked to keep reading (I refused to even read this book before bed because I was so creeped out). It definitely had plenty of scary stuff going on, so if that's your thing, it's on you won't want to miss out on.I loved Sophie's character a lot - she wasn't one to sit back and let things happen, instead she takes charge to get to the bottom of things and figure out what's really going on. The whole time things are getting weird and downright terrifying, she isn't cowering in her room, but she's actually trying to get to the bottom of things. All of the characters in this book have plenty of depth - such as Cameron - he has had plenty of things happen to him over the years, and the relationship between him and his sister, Piper, is definitely a troubled one.The only character who lacked any kind of personality was probably Sophie's uncle...he really didn't add much to the story and I think for the most part it would have been the same with or without him around.The mysteries around the school itself begin to come to light when Sophie sets out to uncover what is really going on here. I found myself asking during the duration of the time I spend reading this book, whether or not the dolls were actually alive and scary as hell. I mean, there had to be some kind of explanation, right? You would think so...Anyway, if you love horror, especially the gem that is YA horror, do not skip over this book!Note: I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I'll preface this with an admission; I don't read a lot of young adult literature, so I don't consider myself entirely familiar with the genre. However, this book was highly praised on a YouTube channel I watch, and the concept really intrigued me, so I downloaded the sample from Amazon and was taken in enough to buy the book so I could finish it.Frozen Charlotte introduces us to Sophie, a teenage girl who finds herself embroiled in a terrifying ghost story. While screwing around with an Ouiji board app, her best friend manages to release a spirit and start a chain of events that expose a mystery that haunts her family.I don't want to give a lot away in this review, because the book has a number of enjoyable twists and turns, blending mystery with a colorful cast of characters and a disturbing backdrop on the Isle of Skye. Alex Bell does a lovely job of painting a clear and chilling picture of Sophie's desolate surroundings, creating a setting that is both treacherous and beautiful. You find yourself feeling as isolated as Sophie is in her uncle's antique house which once served as a girls boarding school, and the jutting clifftops and constant sea winds threaten to push you over the edge. It serves to be an impressive atmosphere that heightens the tensions throughout the story.I found Frozen Charlotte to be an easy read, which I expected from a YA book, so that isn't a complaint. If anything, I found the author hit a lovely balance between creating a story that was legitimately scary while still sticking to the YA formula. Sophie is the POV character, and while her tenacious behavior often seems beyond her years, it helps to highlight her transformation from a typical teenage girl to a brave young woman prepared to take on something far bigger than herself at any expense. That said, I often felt that some of Sophie's characterization felt a little too level-headed, especially when it came to her own internal struggles and experiences of grief. While we do get to experience some of her heartbreak and certainly moments of terror through her, she also takes quite a bit in stride with a distance that isn't always entirely believable. While a lot of it is explained by her own inability to accept the loss of a loved one and the terrifying distraction of what is going on around her, I felt I didn't entirely find closure of what she experienced on her behalf by the end of the book.There is also a bit of a love story, although I think that phrase is even too strong to explain the slight romantic tensions within the book. If anything, it is a slow and realistic subplot, and Bell avoids some of the cliche pitfalls of playing up a romance in a story that isn't really fit for it.One thing I really loved about this book was the way Bell weaved together the history of Frozen Charlottes with a chilling mythology. The dolls actually exist, which brings creepy dimension to the story. Each chapter begins with a verse of the song about Charlotte, and the unfortunate end that she met due to her own pride and the cautionary tale it becomes certainly weaves into themes in the book. With that, I also have to applaud Bell for her ability to include a verse to each chapter without sacrificing the pace and tension between chapters.Frozen Charlotte is a solid, well written, and intriguing book that explores themes of loss, betrayal, and free will, and it offers a number of genuine scares and chilling scenes. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone under the age of 13, as it might prove to be a little too scary for even the most precocious of readers. It is an easy read while still offering a riveting mystery and wonderfully illustrated setting, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys the YA horror genre.This book was recommended by Book Sundays on YouTube (@booksundays1 on Twitter).

I won't lie, I found this to be a creepy read, as an adult, had I read it in my teens, I don't think I'd be sleeping at all after I finished it. Although I am outside the age of the intended audience, this one caught my interest for the author's use of the "Fair Charlotte", ballad, as the song had come to my attention on a Smithsonian Folkways CD, being listed undee the name "Young Charlotte". Researching the song's origin and history lead me to pick up the book. With some reservations, being outside the target audience, as I said. However, I quickly lay aside my reservations with the end of the first chapter. It drew me in from the start, with bits from the song-which was originally written as a poem in the 1800s-at the beginning of each chapter. I also found the characters to be ver well-written, and I loved the mystery aspects of the novel, as well as the setting, it all lends an overall Gothic feel to the novel aa a whole.

Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell is a perfect October read. The prologue creates a creepy feeling and, when the story opens with two friends and a ouija board, it seems a little more lighthearted until the foreshadowing leads to dread and tragedy. At that point, I was pulled into the book and couldn’t put it down. Sophie travels to Scotland to visit relatives and to learn about how her cousin Rebecca died. Strange things are happening at Sophie’s cousins’ home and she wants to figure it all out. Sophie gets closer to the spooky happenings while her cousins act more and more strangely. The twists and revelations are fascinatingly spooky! 5 stars for this young adult horror story!

Received a review sample from the Amazon Seller.A few days after my wife died, both of my knees started to ache with varying amounts of pain, from 4 to 8 or 9 on my personal 1 to 10 pain scale. Nothing seemed to help, and my GP suggested seeing a doctor at the NYU Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.We chose Dr. Halpern, author of The Knee Crisis Handbook: Understanding Pain, Preventing Trauma, Recovering from Knee Injury, and Building Healthy Knees for Life, and a very experienced knee expert (among other things, he was team doctor for the Jets for a number of years).Dr. Halpern diagnosed advanced arthritis, and he suggested I try glucosamine and chondroitin. He said that my case was fairly well advanced -- he couldn't explain why the pain was presenting so late in the disease's progression -- and that some patients had good results from Glucosamine. In any event, side effects were minimal and alternatives were much more "heroic". (And, also, perhaps unavailing as I learned while representing a major company that made artificial hips and knees.)Of course, I also read his fine book; while representing that company, I interacted with many doctors and other experts, and Dr. Halpern was held in the highest esteem. On the personal side, I was very impressed that he urged me to avoid surgery if at all possible given my active life style. He knew, of course, that if I elected surgery, he would have been my leading candidate to perform the surgery. It always impresses me when an expert gives me advice against his own self interest.I did a bit of research on his suggestion of using glucosamine and chondroitin, and learned that reports of effectiveness range from 10% to 70%, depending on the population being surveyed; "Consumer Union" has historically been on the low end of that range, although more recently "CU's medical and nutritional consultants have identified and tested a few products ... with possible benefits and sufficiently low risks to recommend for general use, including: saw palmetto for benign enlarged prostate in men, glucosamine and chondroitin for arthritis, and fish-oil capsules (omega-3 fatty acids) for heart disease."Glucosamine is often sold in combination with other supplements such as chondroitin sulfate and methylsulfonylmethane. Of the three commonly available forms of glucosamine, only glucosamine sulfate is given a "likely effective" rating for treating osteoarthritis.In my case, I started taking three of these tablets a day, and the pain subsided only three days later. Today, two years later, it is rarely more than a 1 or 2 on my pain scale, and when it kicks up I take one to three more tablets. They actually taste good, and work very well.My brother-in-law has had a similar problem for the past five years, and his pain is also controlled by this product. Based on the reports of others, it may not help everyone, but it sure helped both of us.I've tried a number of different brands, all of which provided the same relief. I have written a number of reviews for those products in hopes that others who suffer from knee pain may find relief in these products. On average, the pain rut ns between a hard one and a soft two on my personal pain scale.I've tried several brands, including Finest Nutrition Glucosamine & Chondroitin Tablets, 180 ea and Jarrow Formulas Glucosamine and Chondroitin and MSM, 240 Capsules as well as a free sample of Schiff Glucosamine HCl, 2000 mg Per 2 Coated Tablets, 150 Coated Tablets (Pack of 2) from the Amazon Vine program. I'll have to sharpen my pencil when the freebies run out, and do a bit of comparison shopping. I know within 24 hours of stopping taking the Glucosamine, the pain in my knees jumps up to the 8-10 range.The key ingredient for me seems to be the glucosamine sulfate; as long as it is present, the pain is managed. Note that Schiff Glucosamine HCl, 2000 mg Per 2 Coated Tablets, 150 Coated Tablets does not contain other supplements, like chondroitin sulfate.My brother-in-law has had a similar problem for the past seven years, and his pain is also controlled by glucosamine sulfate. Based on the reports of others, it may not help everyone, but it sure helped both of us.So, if you have knee problems, four bits of advice:1. Read this excellent book and focus in on the sections describing your potential problem or problems.2. Find a top flight knee doctor.3. Get a second opinion.4. This article is testimony to how powerful the placebo effect can be. Whether its Glucosamine or my own susceptibility to the placebo effect, I don't care. It is great to be pain free.***From Dan Lewis's blog, "Now I know"If you’re feeling sharp aches or a burning sensation in your knees or other joints, you maybe suffering from osteoarthritis, or OA. OA, according to PubMed, is “the most common joint disorder” and occurs “due to aging and wear and tear on a joint.” As the Mayo Clinic notes, the condition affects millions worldwide and there is no cure. But there are some treatments available. And about a decade ago, 180 people underwent surgery to alleviate some of the pain. Eutimo Perez, Jr., was one of them, as retold by ABC News. Before the procedure, Perez described his pain as off the charts. Two years after? He claimed to be pain-free. Which is pretty incredible — especially because Perez’s procedure was a sham. Perez and the 179 others were part of a study conducted jointly by the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Baylor College of Medicine. According to ScienceDaily, the 180 patients were divided into three groups, at random, with each group receiving a different “treatment,” so to speak:One group received debridement, in which worn, torn, or loose cartilage is cut away and removed with the aid of a pencil-thin viewing tube called an arthroscope. The second group underwent arthroscopic lavage, in which the bad cartilage is flushed out. The third group underwent simulated arthroscopic surgery; small incisions were made, but no instruments were inserted and no cartilage removed.Perez was in group three. And like most others in his group, the procedure “worked.” The research was published in the July 11, 2002 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, and Dr. Bruce Mosely, the paper’s lead author, told ABC News (as linked above) that “[t]he groups were all reporting improvement; it’s just there was no greater benefit in any of the groups compared to the placebo. [ . . .] I think that if you believe in something, you can get well.” Mind over matter. It also may show that patients — even those involved in medical studies — also are optimistic and hopeful (or perhaps, that they fail to read the fine print).The study specifically noted that participants “may receive only placebo surgery” which “will not benefit [their] knee arthritis.” The patients weren’t told which group they were in during a two year, post-procedure observation period, so not only did they have to believe that the surgery worked, but they also had to believe that they had surgery in the first place. While some doctors still perform arthroscopic surgery ostensibly to relieve pain due to osteoarthritis, it’s not easy to justify given the 2002 study. This is especially true because in 2008, another set of doctors repeated the 2002 study and came to the same conclusion.
